Reel Youth Showcase

Thursday April 30 @ 9:30 AM
Short Films Program
Running Time: 66 minutes
Ages: 12+

Most of the films we see are made by adults – so what happens when young people sit in the director’s chair? The world looks very different to young people from Iran, Singapore, Taiwan, Korea, China, France and the Ukraine, and their perspectives give us a rare insight into the next generation of leaders, change-makers, and visual artists.

For this program, The Scene has partnered with The Reel Youth Film Festival to bring you a compelling collection of short films from across the globe - all made by youth. The films are packed with humour, courage, and inspiration for viewers of all ages. Chosen by a youth selection panel, and curated to reflect diversity of expression and identity, this collection shows you the world through the eyes of a gifted group of emerging filmmakers.

About Reel Youth

Reel Youth is a media empowerment project that delivers community development programming to youth and adults across Canada and internationally. Film production and distribution programs are designed to create positive change in young people's lives through technical skill building, leadership training, creative collaboration with peers and mentors, and increased connection to community resources.

Our award-winning programs support participants to create media about issues they care about as they gain tangible skills that improve their employability, regardless of the field of work they choose. Programs are as much about film making as building personal resiliency in marginalized youth to overcome challenges, be successful, and inspire those around them.

Reel Youth has worked with young people in India, Nepal, Vietnam and Morocco though international schools, NGOs and community groups, using film and stop motion animation.
