What Should I Do With My Life?

Don’t know? Don’t worry. You’re not alone.

Presentation and Q&A with Sean Aiken
October 30, 2019 @ 9:30 am
Running time: 90 minutes

“What should I do with my life?” A question that many quietly struggle with for years. And Sean was no different. Lacking direction and overwhelmed with anxiety and the pressure and expectation of parents, teachers, peers, and society, Sean describes how he came up with the idea to work 52 jobs in 52 weeks, the various adventures his journey took him on and imparts the valuable life and career lessons he discovered along the way to help students navigate the challenging transition from school into the working world.

Students will learn what they can be doing now to prepare themselves, that it’s okay not to have all the answers, and most importantly, that they are not alone.

View video from One Week Job The One-Week Job Project was created by Sean Aiken who worked 52 jobs in 52 weeks to discover his passion. He trekked more than 74,000 km, slept on 55 couches, and raised over $20,000 for charity.

From a Cowboy in Wyoming, to a Fashion Buyer in Manhattan, to a Canadian Air Force recruit in Trenton, an NHL Mascot with the Washington Capitals, a yoga instructor in Edmonton, a Firefighter in Florida, Park Ranger in Hawaii, and Real Estate Agent in Beverly Hills, Sean learned not only about himself but also about the people around him, finding out what drives people to choose a certain career, what makes them successful, and, more importantly, what makes them happy.

A unique idea with universal themes, the project resonated with millions around the world and inspired One-Week Job projects in Australia, India, the UK, USA, and Vietnam, as well as an award-winning documentary film, student curriculum, and book published by Penguin Random House. Most recently, Sean helped create the Wayfinding Academy - a two-year accredited college in Portland, Oregon at the heart of the movement to revolutionize higher education – where he is currently an Associate Professor.
